Reviving Heritage: How Adaptive Reuse Aligns with SCT's Mission

The recent 're:store' charrette held by Architects' Journal and SAVE proposing reuse strategies for the former M&S store on Oxford Street exemplifies the essence of what SCT stands for. This event gathered six teams to pitch innovative ideas for repurposing the iconic 1929 building, highlighting how reuse and adaptation can preserve history while promoting sustainability—a mission central to SCT's work.

At SCT, we believe in preserving the architectural and cultural heritage of our communities while promoting sustainability. The charrette's focus on rethinking how we approach old buildings resonates deeply with our work. Just as the teams at the event explored innovative ways to reuse and adapt the M&S store, SCT is committed to finding sustainable solutions that respect the history of the buildings we seek to protect.

This event also highlighted the importance of public engagement and community involvement, which are central to our approach. By encouraging discussions about the value of reuse and the role of heritage in modern society, we aim to foster a deeper connection between people and the spaces they inhabit, ensuring that our built environment continues to serve and inspire future generations.
